In depth

Poseidon · The sourcing programme behind every jar

Poseidon is the operating name of the Releone sourcing programme. It is not a sub-brand — it is the contract under which every wild fish enters the house. The principle: name every vessel, name every harvest, name every cure-master. If we cannot name them on the lid, we do not ship it.

Six wild treasures in the Founder Edition: Mediterranean Bluefin from the Cádiz almadraba, Wild King salmon from Bristol Bay in three expressions (Ivory King × Saffron, Smoked King Belly, Wild King Ikura), Cantabrian anchovies from a single Santoña vessel × Amalfi IGP lemon, and Algarve Sardine Millésimée, vintage-cured. The wider catalogue — Chargrilled day-of-catch sardines, New Nordic Smoked Baltic Herring (juniper and alder, Noma-era Copenhagen technique), Sardinian mullet bottarga — enters under the same Poseidon contract.

Each jar is signed on Algorand mainnet at pack time. The Algorand Standard Asset (ASA) carries the vessel name, harvest date, cure protocol, and the cure-master's signature. The ASA URL is printed on the certificate inside every lid. You can verify it on a public explorer; we do not control the data once it is signed.

Sustainability is not the same as marketing. We source only from quota-managed fisheries, prioritising MSC certification, with vessel-level traceability and a written refusal to source any species under IUCN concern. The 2026 ICCAT bluefin quota expansion (+19.3%, Eastern Atlantic) is the scientific signal that the Mediterranean wild fishery has recovered to a place where careful sourcing is responsible.

Poseidon is also the discipline behind what we do not source. No farmed salmon. No squid in ink (mass-produced). No octopus from the Atlantic Mediterranean (overfished). No anchovy from the Argentine waters (juvenile catch). The list of what we refuse is longer than what we ship.

House standards

  • ·Single-vessel traceability per jar.
  • ·Algorand signature — public, verifiable, immutable.
  • ·MSC-certified or equivalent-managed-fishery only.
  • ·OU certification pursued across the line.
  • ·Glass — not tin, not retort pouch, not plastic.

Questions

Is Poseidon a separate brand?

No. Poseidon is the name of the sourcing programme inside the Releone house. The brand is Releone.

Why Algorand?

Three reasons. Carbon-negative chain (Algorand offsets its protocol-level emissions). Fast finality (~2.8 seconds). And ASA-native — each jar is its own asset with its own URL, no IPFS dependency.

Can I see the data without buying a jar?

Yes — releone.io/verify lets you look up any ASA by jar number, no purchase required.

What if a vessel goes out of compliance?

We drop them. The certificate inside the jar names the boat that fished that specific lot. If the vessel later violates a quota, we change vendors. Past jars remain valid; their signature was true at the time.
